Online Couples & Family Therapy in MA & NC
Expert therapy from the comfort of your own couch.
With online therapy you get the same depth, same results and expert care from wherever you are in Massachusetts or North Carolina. For families, couples and individuals.
Who online therapy is for?
Online therapy works beautifully for:
Busy schedules and full lives. No childcare scramble, no commute. Just close the laptop when we're done.
Health, mobility, or accessibility needs. Therapy shouldn't require you to navigate parking, stairs, or waiting rooms.
Families in different locations. Adult children and aging parents, college students home for break–we can bring everyone together virtually.
Anyone who opens up more easily at home. Some people simply prefer the privacy and comfort of their own space.
People who've been putting off therapy due to logistics. If you need evening or weekend flexibility, or you live somewhere without access to an experienced EFT therapist, online therapy solves that.
How online therapy works
Platform
I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant version of Zoom. I'll send you a private link before each session.
Setup
Both partners (or family members) can join from the same device or separate ones–whatever works for you.
Session length
Sessions are typically 75 minutes and follow the same structured EFT approach I use in person.
Scheduling
I offer evening and weekend availability to fit your life. To get started contact me.
Online therapy for couples and families across Massachusetts & North Carolina
I work exclusively online with couples, families and individuals via secure video. You get the same EFT approach, the same attention, the same results–without the commute, the childcare scramble, or the stress of getting to an office.
Most couples sit together for our sessions. Same room, same couch (yours, not mine). Which is exactly what EFT needs. The therapy happens between the two of you. I'm just the guide.
Why online therapy works–especially for couples
You're already in the same space.
For couples therapy to work, you need to be together. Online lets you do that from home–where you're more comfortable, more relaxed, and more likely to be yourselves.
No logistics puzzle.
No commute. No figuring out who leaves work early. No scrambling for a babysitter. Just close the laptop when we're done, and you're already home.
You get a specialist (not just whoever's nearby).
I've been doing EFT for over 20 years. If you're in Massachusetts or North Carolina and looking for an experienced EFT therapist, you don't have to make a choice based on proximity.
Consistency is easier.
When sessions fit into your life instead of requiring you to rearrange it, you show up more consistently. And consistency is what makes this work.
It actually works.
I've been working with couples online for years–long before the pandemic. The research backs it up, and I've seen it firsthand. What matters is the connection between you and your partner. The screen doesn't get in the way of that.
How I can help online
Couples Therapy
I help couples work through the patterns keeping them stuck–whether that's communication breakdowns, emotional disconnection, rebuilding trust, chronic arguments, and more. Through EFT, we uncover what's really happening underneath the conflict.
Pre-Commitment & Premarital Therapy
Thinking about marriage or another serious commitment? Let's make sure you're building on solid ground and address any patterns before they become problems.
Family Therapy
Families get caught in cycles too. I work with parents and teens navigating conflict, adult children and aging parents struggling to connect, and families dealing with co-parenting challenges or blended family transitions.
LGBTQ Couples Therapy
Your relationship deserves a therapist who gets it. I have extensive experience working with same-sex couples, and I create an affirming space where you don't have to educate me–you can just do the work of reconnecting.
Meet your therapist, Paula Zerfoss, LCSW, LICSW
I've been doing Emotionally Focused Therapy with couples and families for over 20 years. I'm a Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor– which means I don't just practice this work, I teach other therapists how to do it.
I've been working online since long before the pandemic made it the norm. I know how to create a safe, connected space through a screen. And I know how to guide couples through the deep emotional work that EFT requires– whether we're in the same room or not.
My approach is calm, direct, and respectful. I'll be honest with you. I'll ask the hard questions. And I'll be alongside you the whole way.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes. Research consistently shows that online couples and family therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions when facilitated by a trained, licensed therapist.
In fact, many couples report feeling more comfortable, open, and focused when working from their own environment. There's something about being in your own space–on your own couch–that can actually make the work feel safer.
I've been working with couples online for over 20 years, long before it became the default. I'm a Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor, which means I not only practice this approach–I train other therapists in it. The depth, the structure, the results–they're all the same. The only thing that's different is the location.
